71 Toll Lane

A 4-mile toll road along SH 71 from Presidential Blvd to SH 130 in east Austin

Those looking to bypass traffic congestion have a choice to use the 71 Toll Lane. Drivers who prefer not to pay a toll can use the non-tolled lanes on SH 71.

SH 71 serves as a major corridor connecting drivers to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA), the city of Bastrop, and points beyond. The 71 Toll Lane Project added a toll lane in each direction along SH 71 from near Presidential Boulevard at ABIA and extending east near SH 130. These lanes offer a free-flowing and reliable bypass route for through-traffic, especially during peak hour congestion. The same number of non-tolled travel lanes that were available before construction still remain.

The project constructed:

  • One tolled lane in each direction while preserving and improving the existing non-tolled lanes of SH 71
  • Bridges over FM 973 and SH 130 to facilitate through-traffic movement.
  • Ramps to connect SH 71 with SH 130, offering drivers greater connectivity between the two key roadways.
  • Approximately 5-miles of shared use path along both sides of the corridor to close gaps in the existing and future network of bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

USE YOUR ELECTRONIC TAG OR DRIVE ON THROUGH, WE’LL BILL YOU

71 Toll Lane is completely automated with no need to stop or even slow down at toll booths. The choice is yours – utilize the all-electronic, or cashless, tolling method of payment through an electronic tag account; or if you don’t have an electronic tag just keep moving, and we’ll bill you through the Pay By Mail program.

In Texas, there are multiple transportation agencies that are authorized to operate toll roads, issue their own electronic tag, and do their own billing. In the Austin area, there are two: the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT/TxTag) and the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority (Mobility Authority).

Mobility Authority customers can pay their tolls with a TxTAGTollTagEZ TAG, K-TAG , Pikepass, SunPass or Bancpass and get a 33% discount, or they can choose to Pay By Mail. Pay By Mail customers are billed using a picture of their license plate, and are charged a $1.00 statement fee per bill. Vehicle registration information must be up to date in order for the bill to be sent to the correct address. Pay By Mail is available on all toll roads in Central Texas, although you may receive separate bills depending on which agency operated the road you traveled on.
